What does “El Grito” mean?
“El Grito”
means the shout for independence. Father
Miquel Hidalgo rang the church bell in the village of Dolores at midnight on September 15th, 1810. This was
the call to begin the struggle for Mexican Independence to end 300 years of
Spanish rule. Today, to maintain pride
in our culture, we celebrate “El Grito de Dolores.”
